Olek is just amazing - there is no other way to describe my experience with them! Peter Triestman is not only extremely knowledgeable, his honesty in recommending an efficient solution is way beyond what we have gotten used to seeing these days. ★★★★★
I had 5 pieces of wood furniture each 100+ years old restored by Olek and I couldn't be happier with the work they did. Each piece was returned to me in the time frame estimated in excellent condition both structurally and aesthetically. Their craftsmanship is totally worth the price. I also was pleased with their customer service. They explained what they were doing with each piece and provided any optional choices before proceeding.

I didn't realize how terrible my antique chest on chest looked until Peter and his team worked their magic on it. Their craftsmanship is flawless. May the piece live for at least another 200 years!

Olek, Inc. was very professional in speaking with me via e-mails as well as in the actual work with my chairs. They really did a beautiful job. The work was expensive, but for me was worth it.

The team at Olek did a wonderful job restoring and repairing our almost-150-year-old doors on our home. They worked with us to come up with a plan that was functional, within our budget, and still provided a major aesthetic upgrade. Our doors look wonderful and feel durable and secure!

OLEK is, without a doubt, a superior furniture restoration and reupholstery workroom, so conveniently located in Essex County, New Jersey. From an everyday job to historic repairing of wood, iron, car materials, historic windows, fabric and much more, Peter and his crew work wonders and inform you every step of the way. We had a set of four Indonesian Mahogany chairs restored that we snagged on bulky waste night at curbside, as well as other mid-century modern chairs that needed a little TLC. Cost is reasonable and care is something from days gone by. Call Peter or Yan today. You can't imagine how pleased you will be!

Delighted with Olek's immaculate and timely work to reupholster our set of 6 Vienna Secession dining chairs. The "before" and "after" difference is remarkable! Now, we can really enjoy them. Beauty and utility restored! Thank you to the whole Olek team for the excellent job and smooth process. A pleasure!

★★★★★
STUNNED!!! Pleasantly! After a protracted storage period for some treasured furnishings, I had the unfortunate experience of seeing the effects of time, lack of care and the elements had on them. From rust to degraded fabric and components (wheels, casters, wiring) to chipped, faded wood and brass trim.I feel extremely lucky to have found Olek, Inc. in Orange, New Jersey. As I sent photos of an Herman Miller Eames office chair, Knoll Albini desk, Anglepoise Floor and table lamps and a unique Art Deco Rosewood side table they quickly offered to restore all of them with confidence. EVEN after seeing them in person. They worked to explain the processes required since Ihonestly thought these were all "lost" for good.Thrilled to report that was not the case. As a matter of fact, I am posting here willingly because of the outstanding result on every single piece. Not only has every piece been restored to the original beauty but the Rosewood table specifically (made of a combination of Rosewood, steel plates and casters as wheels) looks better than when originally bought. I cannot express how pleased I am with the results.Cleary Peter and his team are extremely professional. They took the time and care to bring these pieces back from what I assumed was disrepair (if not despair). As importantly, they listened.DTEN

The nice folks at Olek have now done two jobs for me; both restorations of Eames side chairs. The work they did was excellent, there was good turn around time, and they communicated with me very quickly. I'm really happy to have found such a professional operation for furniture restoration and I highly recommend them.

Outstanding! I had a 1970s leather barrel chair repaired -- new cushioning for the seat and part of the leather replaced. The seat feels totally comfortable and the leather is a perfect match. I also had 1980s dining room chairs repaired -- new seat cushioning and new fabric. This, also, was a perfect repair job. The skills of the folks at this shop are off the charts excellent! Plus, Peter, Yan, the technicians I met, and even the dogs, are all very cool. Unique!

My mother owns an antique black lacquered coffee table with three porcelain medallions. The table had seen better days with the lacquer flaking off, joints becoming unstable and overall this beautiful piece looked rough. I brought the table to Olek’s furniture restoration shop and they detailed all of work required and the inlays and colors used. After many painstaking weeks and many emails, Peter and his team returned the table back to my mom. To say we did not recognize it would be an understatement. The table did not look shiny and new but age appropriate and pristine. It was gorgeous! We get countless compliments and have had several offers to buy the table. I would recommend Olek to anyone serious about having their furniture professionally and expertly restored. You will not be disappointed.

We had two very unusual objects in very bad shape. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I had a feeling that these two repairs would be in good hands. The results are amazing! This made a very special gift to my husband as both objects were family heirlooms. He was thrilled. I appreciate the professionalism, high quality repair and stellar skill set of all those craftsman who are part of OLEK. If you have the money to take care of something really special, this is the place to get it done, and done extremely well! I am thankful for these people!

I have a V. Kagan 175 E armchair that was literally falling apart- the wood was separating at the joins and the leather seat and padding were shot- Peter at Olek did and amazing job bringing it back to "like new." They aren't cheap, but the quality is so worth it- I highly recommend them for mid-century furniture restorations!

Peter and the team at Olek did amazing work refinishing, rebuilding, and reweaving chairs I received from my parents. Now they are ready for the next 50 years of everyday use. They are absolutely gorgeous, a pleasure to sit in, and look brand new, but with the memories of growing up with them. Wonderful work, amazing craftspeople with evident respect for the art and tradition of the pieces they work on.

When my vintage Eames lounge chair suddenly broke in two I found several places that claimed to specialize in such restoration. I am so glad that I picked Oleck. Peter Triestman and the men he works with are true artists and experts at furniture restoration. I would trust them with furniture from any period and plan on bringing them other fine furniture I have that needs serious repair. They returned all of my emails quickly, answered questions, and picked up and returned the furniture in great time. Thank you Olek!

Wonderful service …from my initial conversation regarding the work that needed to be done on my chairs to the pickup and delivery of my newly restored chairs (from 1950’s teak and upholstered … needed the chair joints tightened) all was done professionally and courteously. Could not be happier with Olek Inc and Peter and his crew. Would highly recommend. The company has been doing this for many years now and they definitely do fine work!

Had Olek restore an Asian cabinet that had been in my wife’s family for years. The reviews on this company don’t do them justice. They took the cabinet that looked absolutely terrible and restored it to like new. They definitely know what they are doing ans it was worth every penny. Would definitely recommend them without reservation.

Residential Furniture & Woodwork Restoration FAQs

What types of residential furniture does Olek restore?

Olek restores antique, vintage, modern and contemporary furniture including tables, chairs, desks, cabinets, case pieces and mixed-material furniture. The appropriate treatment depends on construction, condition, materials, prior repairs and the owner’s goals.

What restoration philosophy does Olek follow?

Structure comes before cosmetics: a beautiful finish cannot compensate for weak joinery, so structural issues are identified and corrected first — whether a loose dowel, a weak mortise-and-tenon joint or a poor earlier repair — using wood-to-wood repairs, fitted components and Dutchman inlays rather than cosmetic filler. Serviceable original wood, veneer, carving, hardware and finish are retained whenever the approved treatment allows, and species, grain, profile, texture, color and sheen are considered so repaired areas belong to the piece instead of reading as patches. Any change is approved by you first.

Can Olek match the original color, sheen and finish?

Yes, when the existing surface and materials allow it. Finish matching considers color, sheen, transparency, texture, age and surrounding surfaces. Depending on condition, the best treatment may be localized touch-up, finish restoration or full refinishing.

Can you repair damaged veneer, inlay or marquetry?

Yes. Olek can repair lifted or damaged veneer and recreate missing inlay or marquetry where suitable materials and references are available. Matching grain, species, figure, pattern and color is part of the treatment.

Do you restore built-ins, mantels, stair parts and architectural woodwork?

Yes. Residential restoration can include built-in cabinetry, paneling, wainscot, mantels, moldings, doors and stair-related woodwork. Depending on the element, work may be performed on site, in the shop, or through a combination of removal, shop restoration and reinstallation.

Should an antique or heirloom always be completely refinished?

No. Full refinishing is only one possible treatment. Where original surface, patina, age or authorship matters, a more conservative approach may better preserve the character and material that give the piece significance. Olek discusses the desired outcome before treatment.

How long does residential furniture restoration take?

There is no useful one-size-fits-all timeline. A localized repair and a complex marquetry, structural or architectural restoration require very different work. Olek establishes a project-specific schedule after reviewing condition, scope, material needs, approvals and logistics.

Is restoration done in Olek’s shop or on site?

Both are possible. Removable furniture is generally handled in Olek’s New Jersey facility, while built-ins and architectural woodwork may require site assessment, removal, installation or selected on-site restoration. The treatment location is determined by the object and scope.

Why choose Olek for furniture restoration?

Olek has restored, refinished and reupholstered fine furniture from its New Jersey workshop since 1950. Cabinetmakers, finishers, carvers and upholsterers work under one roof, so each piece is treated as a complete object rather than passed between vendors.

What should I send for an initial restoration review?

Send overall and close-up photos, approximate dimensions, project location, a description of the damage, any known maker or history, any known previous repairs or refinishing, and what you hope to preserve or change. Photos of loose joints, missing veneer, finish damage, labels or signatures are especially useful.
