Eames Lounge Chair Repair

The Eames Lounge Chair is one of the most celebrated furniture designs of the twentieth century — and one of the most complex to repair properly. Olek’s technicians specialize in every component: shock-mount replacement, molded-plywood shell repair, rosewood and walnut veneer restoration, and full leather reupholstery using hides that match original Herman Miller specifications. We service all eras of production, from early 1956 models through current editions, and offer nationwide pickup and delivery with full insurance coverage. Each chair is returned to factory-level performance and appearance.

Conservation & Custom Fabrication

Our conservation workshop handles projects that range from stabilizing centuries-old gilded frames to fabricating custom bronze hardware for landmark buildings. Every intervention follows the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, prioritizing reversibility and minimal alteration to original materials. On the fabrication side, we design and build one-of-a-kind casework, architectural metalwork, and specialty furnishings in bronze, brass, teak, and other fine materials. Clients include museums, historic-preservation firms, architects, and private collectors throughout the tri-state area.

Stained Glass Restoration

Stained glass is among the most fragile and historically significant art forms found in American buildings. Olek’s glaziers perform full-spectrum services: crack repair, re-leading, protective glazing installation, and complete panel restoration for windows dating from the nineteenth century to the present. We work closely with congregations, preservation committees, and architects to develop phased restoration plans that respect both the artistic heritage of each window and the practical realities of building maintenance budgets.

★★★★★
The shock mounts on our 50 year old Eames lounge chair failed. In addition to repairing them, we had the leather upholstery treated, the wood refinished and the metal buffed. The quality of the workmanship was superb, the turnaround time was prompt, and the people we dealt with were knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Didn't come cheap, but the result was worth every penny.

Olek, Inc. restored and reupholstered a vintage Eames lounge and ottoman for my client with beautiful results. They have a deep knowledge of the various versions and constructions of the piece, and offer excellent communication about the process. We took advantage of their pickup and delivery service, and opted for a leather from their offerings that is true to the style of the original piece. I would highly recommend Olek for reupholstery services and wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.

First class experience all around. A beautiful repair to our iconic Eames lounge chair. After the initial shockmount repair, we had Olek precisely restore upholstery and the original rosewood -- looks spectacular! Wonderful customer service as well — highly recommend.

★★★★★
We had two very unusual objects in very bad shape. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I had a feeling that these two repairs would be in good hands. The results are amazing! This made a very special gift to my husband as both objects were family heirlooms. He was thrilled. I appreciate the professionalism, high quality repair and stellar skill set of all those craftsman who are part of OLEK. If you have the money to take care of something really special, this is the place to get it done, and done extremely well! I am thankful for these people!

When my vintage Eames lounge chair suddenly broke in two I found several places that claimed to specialize in such restoration. I am so glad that I picked Oleck. Peter Triestman and the men he works with are true artists and experts at furniture restoration. I would trust them with furniture from any period and plan on bringing them other fine furniture I have that needs serious repair. They returned all of my emails quickly, answered questions, and picked up and returned the furniture in great time. Thank you Olek!

Common Questions

What specialty services does Olek offer?

Eames Lounge Chair repair and restoration, museum-grade furniture conservation and custom fabrication, stained glass repair and restoration, and art conservation — including sculpture restoration, frame conservation and gilding, and decorative painting.

Do you follow conservation standards?

Yes. As AIC conservation members, we follow the American Institute for Conservation’s code of ethics and guidelines for practice: treatments are documented, reversible wherever possible and respectful of the original material.

Can I ship my Eames Lounge Chair to you?

Yes. Eames work comes to us from across the United States and abroad. Depending on the repair, you can ship the whole chair or only the seat and back shells, and we give packing guidance for your scope.

How is stained glass restored?

We survey the windows on site, number and crate each panel for transport to our workshop, carry out cleaning, releading, glass repair and paint stabilisation, then reinstall with fresh weatherproofing and protective glazing where specified.

Do you offer a warranty on specialty work?

Yes. Warranty coverage depends on the scope — up to 50 years on select work. For Eames chairs, broken lower back shell repair carries a 15-year warranty and shock-mount warranties run 5 to 15 years. Your proposal states the exact terms.
